She seemed a little different but she wanted to go to her dog house. At 7 pm I went out to feed the Dogs. Boo was hanging around the door but scout was no where in sight. I called again for her ,she did not come to eat. This is it, puppies are coming soon.
Quickly fed Boo in the garage and then check on Scout. When I came out the side door, I grabbed the silver flash light from the Suburban and I crawled in the dog house. She was growling at Boo. I could here the pup moving around, Scout was curled deeply into her nest, licking it but Scouts back was turned to the door and me. I kept pulling my way in, a week ago I shoved in a bale of straw, it was thick and in your nose. In a dog house up-to my wait in Straw and the pups is with in my reach, (this is so cool ) a calmness came over me so I reached for the pup.
Now, I have no bags with me, no box and the only way to carry the little guy is... in my mitten?. I could not slide the wet boy into the mitten no matter how hard I tried. In my pocket? no, in my hands? no way, It's like 6 above outside. Luckily I had my Rabbit Mad Boomer hat on. Put the Pup into the hat, the hat in my teeth and pushed and crawled my way backwards to the outside. Upon standing, I slide, walked and shuffled to the deck passed Boo and into the house, Scout was right at my side looking at the hat. Into the office area and I laid the pup and directed Scout into the Blue pool. Pool at last, Pool at last, God almighty pool at last.
The most interesting whelping so far. Wait, this was just the start of a long Winters' night. First born Boy (1) 7:10pm small and light buff.(2) 7:44 yellow male good size. (3) 9:o3 yellow male same , he came out moving, size as the last two (4) 9:23 wow, that was fast.(5) 10:08 things are going great. Another male, white, largest yet. The next 2 hours were slower, then at (6) 12:47am, yet another male. Now, tiered yet focused,
Ok, it was the 6 Diet Dr Peppers. One per pup, I was celebrating. (7) not until 2:12 am did the first girl come out. Scout was tired, I was tired but we both new that there was one more in there. I knew that it would be 4am or 5am before the next one comes out. It's a long cold winters night when you wait like this. The office is colder than the rest of the home. The puppies are warm, heat mat and Mom. Tv movie all night long or infomercials. for you info, local news come on early like 5;30 or so. 6am 6:30am 7am . One starts think about lots of stuff... scout was in and ou of the birthing suite. I called the vets office at 7:15am. They suggested we all come in for a visit. at 8am a called a vet in Madison SD .the did the AI He said that in is experience 99 per cent work it out themselves
I am the other one per cent on things of these matters. At 8 am the first vets office called back a little more concern now. We talked about Scout now. a dead fetus could put toxins in her system Her system is the pups system. OK I said I would come in. Now that the office was opened. upon x-rays of Scout, we saw a pup about the same size as the others, Head down. time? It's now 10am, 8 hours since Scouts last birth,
Then the issue of a hysterectomy. what? I thought I would get one more batch, but by then she would be 8 yrs old. leaving Scout at my vet's office, I drove back to get the 7 others and get them to the birthing suite at the Vets. upon arrival Scout was already in recovery and resting well . I walk no the vet office and the staffer said " it was a girl" I ask if she died upon arrival and she " no, she is doing better" I said better off than, Dead? she said "she's not dead, she had fluid in the mouth and lungs. Keeping her alive has been a pleasure." Now I am still holding the puppies, sleeping but heavier every minuet. A tech took the pups and ask us to wait. ya, right. I walk though the other door, went to ER and just walked to scout kennel, big 4x8.
Took some photos , said our thank you's and went home to set up a 6x12 in-garage kennel with Steve and Lizzy. Played with puppies, took photos, said our good-byes. I went to Bed. 8 puppies in, 8 puppies out.
The greatest whelping ever..
